September 2010 Newsletter

Look out! On September 25th, thirty teams will race throughout Clark County competing for year-round bragging rights and an amazing grand prize! I can't divulge the secret prize yet but perhaps a gnome is involved!

AmazingRace2010The Springfield Rotary Club and Leadership Clark County are partnering on the 2010 Amazing Race - Clark County Edition, which will also be held in conjunction with the City of Springfield's CultureFest.

You certainly won't want to miss out on all of the fun competition, so gather your co-workers, friends and family and submit your four-person team registration today. Information and registration forms are available at www.leadershipclarkcounty.org. Also, there are various opportunities to promote your business as a sponsor of the race. See the registration form for more details. Contact Mark Stephenson at (937) 360-1585 or Sophia Vandiford at (937) 206-3889 if you have any questions regarding the event.

In addition to this collaborative Amazing Race, LCC will kick off Session One of this year's Leadership Academy on September 16th with an Amazing Race strictly for this year's Leadership Academy participants.  I look forward to welcoming the 40 new members of the Leadership Academy with a unique Race designed especially for them by Charlene Roberge, Jessie Beck and Theresa Hartley.

What is an Amazing Race, you ask?  Check out this youtube clip for a glimpse of CBS' version of the popular television show.

I hope to see you at the finish line!

Best Memory:

"Instead of one single memory, it's all the people I had the privilege to meet and get to know. I met great people and made lasting friendships, and enjoy seeing fellow classmates and other alumni at LCC events and throughout Springfield. "

Why LCC is important:

"Springfield is not perfect, but we have more going for us right now than most people realize, and we have a great future ahead of us. LCC and the Academy are a vital part of that successful future by giving information and tools that people need to be true servant leaders in our community. LCC Alumni have gone on to do many great and wonderful things, all benefiting Springfield and Clark County. Plus LCC can connect alumni to non-profit organizations in need of committee members, board members or volunteers. The Academy alone makes LCC vital to our community, and when you add keeping alumni connected with each other and with non-profits, then it's easy to see why LCC is important!"

What I would tell potential applicants:

"This is an amazing community, and if you don't believe that, then you definitely should attend the Academy.  It is well worth the time and energy! It doesn't matter whether you are originally from Springfield or if you just moved here yesterday. The Academy will give you a great background on the history of Springfield, where we are now, and what our potential is for the future. It will also give you tools to help you be a part of that successful future. You'll meet peers and community leaders and come away with new friendships, and you will definitely look at Springfield differently, and far more positively than you thought possible. On top of it all you'll have fun while you learn! "
